Business Valuation
David Cawley is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Valuation Analyst who values closely held businesses, both within and outside of litigation.
Whether you are selling, buying, planning an exit or resolving a dispute, a valuation gives you a defensible number to negotiate from instead of a guess.
Selling your business
If you are a business owner looking to sell your business, David can help determine its fair market value and provide guidance on how to increase its value leading up to the sale.
Exit planning starts well before a buyer appears. Knowing what drives the value of your company today shows you what to work on in the years before you sell.
Buying a business
Looking to buy a business? A valuation before purchase can offer assurance that you're making the right call, and it gives you a supported basis for your offer.
Valuations in litigation
When the value of a business is in dispute, the valuation has to hold up to the other side. David values closely held businesses for:
- Divorce, where a business interest is part of the marital estate
- Shareholder disputes
- Economic damages claims
How a business valuation works
A valuation looks at the business from more than one direction and reconciles the results. The three standard approaches are:
- Income approach: the value of the cash flow the business is expected to produce
- Market approach: what comparable businesses have sold for
- Asset approach: the value of what the business owns, less what it owes
